uplifting communities has garnered international recognition. She co-designed the
transformative Bits concept, a youth development model with global relevance, for which she
received the Anita Borg Change Agent Award in 2009 and again in 2011 for her outstanding
social impact.
Her academic prowess is reflected in the prestigious research grants she received from the
Social Science Research Council and OSSREA, enabling her to explore critical social
challenges. Her writing talent earned her a top spot in the 2024 Bridport Short Story
International Competition, with her captivating story, “Goat in Hyena’s Court,” finishing in
the top 7%.
Anne’s literary accomplishments continue with her debut novel, Line of One, an evocative
tale of triumph and adversity tracing an African child’s journey from colonial Kenya to the
present day. Her forthcoming second novel, Under Humanitarian Lynching Tree, promises a
powerful exploration of love, betrayal, and Pan-Africanism in today’s world. She is
simultaneously working on her third novel, The Civilisers, and refining a collection of poetry
for publication.
Beyond writing, Anne is an accomplished development professional with over 20 years of
experience, specializing in organizational development, strategic planning, and humanitarian
work. Her leadership at notable organizations, including the NEAR network and Nairobits
Trust Kenya, has left lasting impacts, empowering communities and elevating visibility
across Africa.
Currently pursuing her PhD in Development Studies at JKUAT, Anne’s thesis, Decolonizing
Aid, further cements her dedication to challenging colonial legacies in humanitarian work.
With a background in literature, social work, and gender studies, Anne continues to lead and
inspire across multiple spheres.
